As Seen On TV

No two projects we do are the same, but some projects really stand out from the rest - like the time we were called in to fix some 'cowboy building' for a hit BBC One TV show!

The initial phone call was routine enough, when we were asked to help a local couple to correct serious problems left behind by rogue builders.

As is all too common, the McCabe's were seduced by a great-looking deal they found in a newspaper advertisement, and paid to have their entire house fitted with double glazing.

As it turned out, we were actually talking to TV's Clive Holland, star of BBC One's "Cowboy Trap"!

We inspected the house, and could see the problems straight away. Low quality materials and sloppy installation had led to a tremendous amount of water entering the property, causing serious damage to walls, floors and furnishings.

You couldn't even see out through most of the windows, since they were full of condensation, and some of the windows were difficult or impossible to open.

Because of the damp, in the few short years since the windows were installed the McCabe's had redecorated every room in the house several times.

And to make matters worse, the McCabe's initially suspected their roof was leaking and so spent even more money unnecessarily replacing part of their roof.

The McCabe's had spent a fortune trying to cope with the problems caused by 'cowboy builders', but with no success.

In a case like this the best option is to completely remove the failed windows and replace them with properly fitted, high-quality windows.

There was no time to waste. As they say on the show - "Here come the good guys!".

After removing the failed double glazing units we were able to install properly fitting windows, to give the McCabe's house a really watertight seal.

Due to the damage caused to the surrounding walls by water coming in, we had to replaster and repaint several rooms as well.

By the time we were finished, the McCabe's had all new double glazing upstairs and downstairs, allowing lots of light in for the first time in years.

The new double glazed units conform fully to health and safety regulations, and open fully to allow the use of windows as safety exits in case of a fire, where appropriate.

And were the McCabe's happy with the quality of the results?

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Clive and the team at Mentorn Scotland, and we look forward to working with them again in the future.
